Evis travels to Cyprus to attend the first half of the 8th Pharos Arts Foundation International Contemporary Music Festival. The festival, focusing mostly on vocal repertoire for its 8th edition presents some iconic works, many of them for the first time in Cyprus. György Kurtág’s Kafka fragments, Arnold Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire and Beat Furrer’s Lotofagos I are some of this year’s highlights. The festival is once again host to exceptional musicians such as Marianne Pousseur, Het Collectief (who make a return visit after last year’s performance), Robin Engelen, Uli Fussenegger, Hélène Fauchère, Lore Lixenberg (who also makes a return visit for Pharos activities), Aisha Orazbayeva and Joseph Houston.
Other notable events include the premiere of L’ Oracle de Nicosia by its dedicatees Hélène Fauchère and Uli Fussenegger in Nicosia and the performance of Sculpting air in Mexico City by the Neue Vocalsolisten.
Evis travels to Maryland to have the first working sessions with distict5 for the new work he is composing for the group. Peter Sheppard Skaerved performs Nikosia Etudes at Compass Music and Arts Center in Vermont, USA and then again at Ithaca College as part of Peter Sheppard Skaerved’s residency.
Neue Vocalsolisten perform Sculpting air at L'Eglise Notre-Dame à Saint Père in Vézelay, France. Evis starts his new position as Assistant Professor of Music Composition at Ithaca College School of Music.
Evis travels back to Cyprus to attend the international conference “from Xenakis to the present: the Continuum in music and architecture”, coorganized by the University of Cyprus, Department of Architecture, the European University of Cyprus and the University of Rouen. Peter Sheppard Skaerved performs the first two studies from Nicosia Etudes at British Museum in London, UK, at Festspillene Bergen, Norway and at Axiothea in Nicosia, Cyprus.
Evis travels to Geneva, Switzerland to attend the World Premiere of L’oracle de Nicosia at the 2016 Festival Archipel. Evis also travels to Brussels to attend his first meeting as a member of the Executive Board of the International Music Council. Rhymes is performed at the 2016 ISCM Festival in TongYeong, Republic of Korea by Gaia String Quartet.
Most of the month is spent on designing the necessary devises needed for the Nicosia Concerto and preparing the “Nicosia Etudes”, a series of short studies for solo violin in preparation for the "Nicosia Concerto"
Evis finishes the composition of L’oracle de Nicosia for soprano and double bass for Hélène Fauchère & Uli Fussenegger on an original text by Dorian Astor. The world premiere will take place at Festival Archipel (Geneva, Switzerland). Evis starts work on Nicosia Concerto for Peter Sheppard Skaerved
Evis travels back to the USA and to the University of Chicago, where he gives a lecture for the Composition Seminar and works with Postgraduate Composition students. Rest of the month is spent on composition.
Evis is elected as a member of the IMC Executive Board during the 36th General Assembly that took place in Rabat, Morocco on the 12th of November. The International Music Council (IMC) was founded in 1949 at the request of the Director-General of UNESCO as a non-governmental advisory body to the agency on musical matters and IMC's network is present in 150 countries on all continents.
November was again a busy month for travelling! Evis travels to Glasgow to attend the 2015 AEC Congress, taking place at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Subsequently, Evis travels to Hull and Manchester Universities where he delivers two different lectures, before flying to Cyprus. The end of the month sees Evis travel to Vienna and Hannover for four days to deliver lectures and work with students at the Hannover University of Music, Drama and Media.
Evis travels to Italy to attend the World Premiere of his new work Μόρια - Particles by the Divertimento Ensemble as part of the 2015 Milano EXPO and to attend a performance of Sculpting air with the astonishing Neue Vocalsolisten of Stuttgart in Parma before flying back to Atlanta, USA to resume his compositional projects. Earlier in the month, the 7th Pharos Arts Foundation's International Contemporary Music Festival took place. This year’s edition includes first visits by Het Collectief and Slagwerk Den Haag. Evis has worked with Het Collectief in the past towards a performance of Μετήορον - Metioron at the 2012 ISCM Festival in Ghent and also with Fedor Teunisse (Slagwerk Den Haag) as part of the Living Museums project last year. Robin Green makes a return appearance in Cyprus but debuts at the festival performing People United will never be defeated. Peter Sheppard Skaerved, one of the artists with whom Evis cofound this festival seven years ago and who ho has been a very important part of Pharos’ activities makes a much anticipated return visit, bringing with him for the first time in Cyprus Carly Lake and Roderick Chadwick in Brahms’ and Ligeti’s Horn Trios.
Evis travels to Antwerp, Belgium to attend the AEC Council meeting. He subsequently travels to Corfu, Greece for the International Relations Coordinator’s meeting. In between travels he resumes work on the composition of L’oracle de Nicosia for soprano and double bass.

Evis travels to London to give a lecture - interview at the Royal Academy of Music and to attend the recording sessions of Homage to Andrzej Panufnik with the London Symphony Orchestra. Evis composes a new short work especially for the University of York Music Department's 50th Anniversary. The new composition, Breathe for vocal quartet is subsequently premiered at Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall. Peter Sheppard Skaerved performs Monogenesis at the National Centre for Early Music at York and Emmelia is performed at the European University Cyprus by Brice Catherin.
Evis is travelling to Ionian University in Corfu for a week of lectures and workshops. Evis also travels to Berlin, Germany to attend his first AEC Council Meeting before returning to Cyprus to reunite with Bence Boganyi who gives an exciting recital for the Pharos Arts Foundation.
Evis is travelling to Switzerland to attend the World Premiere of Emmelia in Lucerne and then at Zinéma, Lausanne, in what is the worlds’ smallest functioning cinema! The 3rd IMF Festival, for which Evis is part of the Organizing Committee, takes place with tremendous success. Demetra Englezouhas put on a wonderful festival once again! In March, Evis also reunites with Peter Sheppard Skaerved and discuss in more detail the working out of Nicosia Concerto. Emmelia is published by UYMP. Most of the month is taken composing intensely a new work for one-cellist-band for Brice Catherin. Evis and Brice worked closely towards the realization of the new substantial composition, entitled Emmelia, which will be performed multiple times in Switzerland, France and Cyprus among other places. Evis reunites with Sharon Kanach and the International Colloquium "From Xenakis to the Present Day: The Continuum in Music and Architecture” Call for Papers is announced. Evis is part of both the Organizing and Scientific Commttees. Particles is published by UYMP.
Evis finishes the composition of a new work for the 2015 Milano EXPO The new composition, entitled Particles will receive its world premiere in June, 2015. January also saw the performance of Μετάλλαξις - Metallaxis in Maryland, USA by the District5 Quintet.
Evis welcomed back to Cyprus a great friend and collaborator, violinist Peter Sheppard Skaerved. Peter gave an outstanding lecture for EUC students and a public performance at the Cyprus Museum, a continuation of the “Living Museums project” that Evis had initiated earlier in the year. Both were very successful and equally inspiring. Peter and Evis had the chance to experiment with new material and ideas and laid the foundations of a new collaboration, a major new work that will develop over the course of the new year; The two musicians walked around Nicosia, responding to visual and aural stimuli and creating aural and visual urban interventions. Evis travels to Budapest to attend the AEC Annual Congress and General Assembly at the Liszt Academy of Music. During the elections that take place, Evis is elected for a three-year term as AEC Council Member. The Association Européenne des Conservatoires/Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen (AEC), established in 1953, is a European cultural and educational network with over 300 member institutions for professional music in 57 countries; it is one of the most important organizations for the performing arts worldwide. AEC provides support to specialist institutions offering Higher Music Education through engaging in advocacy and partnership-building at European and international levels and through measures to raise understanding and enhance standards of Higher Music Education across the European higher education area and beyond.
It's time for the 6th Pharos Arts Foundation's International Contemporary Music Festival!. A successful Call for Works resulted in the world premiere of two new works by young composers Andreas Tsiartas and Argyro Koliogiorgi, by Ergon Ensemble in a memorable evening which focused on music (old and new) written for silent films. The festival also hosted a highly anticipated return by Hayk Melikyan, who came back to Cyprus with the violin virtuoso Hugo Ticciati giving a most memorable performance. The festival ended on a high note with “Soundspaces”, a fascinating project for bassoon, saxophone and electronics formed by Johannes Schwarz (bassoon) and Sascha Armbruster (saxophone). Between the concerts, there were some exciting workshops and lectures by Alexandros Mouzas and Joanna Jones, an artist with whom the Pharos Arts Foundation has a very strong connection.
October also saw the performance of Four Pieces for clarinet and Piano at the 17th London New Wind Festival and of Ονοματοποιία - Onomatopoeia at the ISCM World New Music Days 2014 in Wroclaw, Poland.
Evis returns to Cyprus in preparation for the new Academic Year and the the Pharos Arts Foundation 6th International Contemporary Music Festival. Meanwhile, back in France, Antoine Alerini gives the French premier of Prelude and Interpunct at the beautiful space of MuCEM in Marseille. Further West, the District5 Quintet performs Μετάλλαξις - Metallaxis at NextNOW Festival Gildenhorn Recital Hall (Maryland, USA)
The first three weeks of July have been taken entirely by the implementation of the Living Museums Project, which has been very successful, attracting a large audience. Evis subsequently travels to Venice to attend the Italian premiere of Sculpting air by Neue Vocalsolisten at Teatro Fondamenta Nuove as part of the PERFORMING ARCHITECTURE and in cooperation with the German Contribution to the 14th International Architecture Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia
June has been a very busy month preparing for the Living Museums Project, a Collaborative Creation, Performance & Education Course Based on Museum Artefacts. This Erasmus Intensive Program is funded by the European Union Lifelong Learning Program and was conceived and is subsequently coordinated by Evis Sammoutis. The culmination of the project is an intervention at the Cyprus Museum in Nicosia. Students and faculty from the Department of Arts of the European University Cyprus (EUC), collaborate with their colleagues from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and the University of Hull to create a series of innovative sound and visual interventions in the unique space of the Cyprus Museum, aiming to provide an alternative museum experience. All students under the guidance of their tutors are responsible for creating all performance materials (creation of website, posters, logos, program, social media publicity) and curate together this two-hour special event.
Spanish premiere of Sculpting air by Neue Vocalsolisten at Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, Spain and then again at the Goethe Institut in Madrid.

Evis has embarked on a series of guitar transcriptions and arrangements of music by Barber, Schubert, Bartok and Locatelli.
Evis travels to Stuttgart for rehearsals and the world premiere of Sculpting air for five voices given at the ECLAT festival by the Neue Vocalsolisten. Νυξ - Nyx for Bassoon and Piano is also performed by Rie Koyama bassoon / Frederic Lagarde, Piano as part of the ARD Prizewinner Recital (Theater Marl (Germany). Evis subsequently travels to Athens for one week as member of a 3-person committee appointed by the Hellenic Quality Assurance and Accreditation Agency of Higher Education (HQAA) to undertake the External Evaluation of the Music Department of The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens

Further performances include these of Μετάλλαξις - Metallaxis for wind quintet by District5 Quintet at Guildenhorn Hall, Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center and at the Riversdale House Museum (Riverdale, MD, USA) and at Thessaloniki Concert Hall in Greece where Pixel for 6 pianos received its world premiere by Piandaemonium.

A highly successful Call for Works resulted in the world premiere of two new works by Anthony Green and Matteo Giuliani and some exceptional performances given by the outstanding Neue Vocalsolisten; Ensemble Transmission and Hayk Melikyan. There were also lectures by Thomas Simaku (featured composer) and Sharon Kanach.
October also had some wonderful concerts of my music includeing these at the Venice Biennale 57th International Festival of Cotemporary Music (Italy), where Ρίμες - Rhymes for String Quartet was performed by the Arditti Quartet and at Musikprotokoll Graz (Austria), where Ξυλογραφίες - Xylographies for ensemble was performed by Klangforum Wien / Jean-Michaël Lavoie, conductor).
Evis travels to Germany for the 62 Internationaler Musikwettbewerb der ARD München where the semi-finalists will be playing his new work for Bassoon and Piano entitled Νυξ - Nyx. Performances will take place on 8th and 20th of September. He will also visit the MiTo Festival in Milan, Italy for the world premiere of Xylographies, which was composed for Klangforum Wien as part of the final year of the San Fedele Prize.
Evis travels to Stuttgart to work with Neue Vocalsolisten towards a new work for vocal ensemble, which will receive its world premiere in Stuttgart in February 2014.
The Zagreb Wind Ensemble performs Breath at the Music Biennale Zagreb on April 11th, and the world premiere of Homage to Andrzej Panufnik is given at the Barbican in London on April 13th by the London Symphony Orchestra with Francois-Xavier Roth, conductor.
Evis wins the 2013 Look and Listen Composition Competition with Ηχοπραξία - Echopraxia for string sextet. Momenta Quartet will subsequently give the work's U.S. premiere on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Pratt Manhattan Gallery in NYC.
Evis travels to Frankfurt to participate at three days of workshops with Ensemble Modern as part of the 2013 International Composition Seminar. Selected from a pool of over one hundred applicants, he will compose a new fifteen-minute work for large ensemble to be premiered in late 2013 during cresc... Biennale für Moderne Musik.
Evis signs a publishing contract with University of York Music Press. All future works as well as a selection of previous work will be published by UYMP. Selected composer by an International Jury for the 2014 ISCM Festival in Poland.

It's time for the Pharos Arts Foundation's 4th International Contemporary Music Festival! Ghost Shadows and Rhymes received its Cyprus premieres by Ensemble Aleph and KAIROS Quartett respectively and Quartetto Prometeo gave the world premiere of Lux Christi.
Evis travels to Germany to begin a DAAD research stay in Cologne where he will begin composing a piece for Bassoon and Piano that will serve as the set piece for the 62 Internationaler Musikwettbewerb der ARD München in 2013.
